Zane E. Newell

Waterbury, CT     Zane E. Newell, 89, husband of Joan (Woodfield) Newell, died peacefully on September 15, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital.

Zane was born September 23, 1935 in Maine a son of the late Frederick Harold Newell and Georgia (Abbott) Newell. Zane lived in Waterbury most of his life, attended local schools and graduated from Wilby High School. For most of his career, Zane worked as a grocery manager and buyer for Everybody’s Markets and retired from Bozzutto’s, Inc., where he also worked as a grocery buyer.

In addition to Joan, his loving wife of 70 years, Zane is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Newell and her husband, Edwin Gammon, III; his sister, Leora Greatorex; dear friends, Lucy and Ed Stanisz and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Zane was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Woodward, his son, Jeffrey Newell and his brothers, Burtram Newell, Dave Newell, Fred Newell and Clive Newell.

Services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
