William "Bill" McCarthy

In the quiet repose of Naugatuck, Connecticut, William “Bill” McCarthy, aged 74, departed from this life on the 28th February, 2024. Born under the springtime skies of Bronx, New York, on the 23rd of March, 1949, he was the beloved son of the late James and Helen McCarthy, and the cherished husband to his late wife, Joan McCarthy.

Bill stood as a testament to gentle strength and quiet humor, a man whose love for the New York Islanders was as steadfast as his commitment to the little joys of life—whether it be the thrill of a Broadway performance, cheering on the Yankees, or the simple pleasure of a good Canadian whiskey or a shared meal with his dear Westchester friends.

In his career at Con Edison, he was known for his dedication and warmth, leaving a legacy of respect and fellowship that brightened the lives of those around him.

Bill's memory will be held dear by his surviving brother, Edward McDermott; his daughter, Debra Wright; his grandchildren, William, Jazmine, and Michelle; and his great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. He now joins those who have gone before him: his parents, his brother Eugene, and his beloved Joan.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service which will be held in Bill's honor at Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck, CT, on the 25th of May, 2024, at 11:00 AM. In keeping with Bill's kindhearted nature, the family requests that charitable donations be made to the ASPCA in lieu of flowers, as a tribute to Bill's lifelong love for animals.
