William “Bill” Edward Lauer, 86, of Hamilton, Montana, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away on May 2, 2026 at Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Hamilton, Montana.
He was born June 21, 1939, in Milford, Connecticut, the son of the late John Edward Lauer of Naugatuck, CT, and Cora Belle Ashe Rosenthal of Bend, Oregon, and step-son of the late Amelia Lauer of Waterbury, the grandson of the late Agnes Hilda and John Peter Lauer, and Nephew of the late William and Ann Lauer of Florida.
Bill graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1957 and is a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the United States Postal Service and Bradlees Department Store. He was a long-time avid golfer and a member of Hop Brook Golf Course. He enjoyed his family, golfing, and most of all, his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Gae Lauer of Hamilton, Montana, his two son’s John Lauer (Eileen) of Naugatuck, and Dave Lauer of Virginia and step-daughter Dacquari Kullick (Peter) of Montana; his grandchildren, Hannah and Sydney Lauer, Brandon Lauer, Michael, Meghan, Mathew Lauer and his step-granddaughters Kayla (Cole) Schmitt and Trinity Beavers; his siblings Bob Rosenthal (Kathy) of Montana, Ken Rosenthal (Judy) of Washington, Beverly Scott of Oregon, Debbie McGillivray (Hugh) of Arizona, Skip Rosenthal (Chrissy) of Montana and Robert Lauer of Connecticut; and 19 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his late wife, Patricia Ann Lauer of Naugatuck, as well as his sisters Donna Aukai of Hawaii and Carol Willcox of Montana.
Arrangements – A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 11 am at Saint James Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. The Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Naugatuck Youth Services, 13 Scott St., Naugatuck, CT 06770.
