WATERBURY- Virginia G. Smith, 96, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2020 at her residence. She was the widow of Andrew Christopher Smith whom predeceased her in 1983.
She was born March 27, 1924 in Waterbury daughter of the late Martin Luther and Anna Maria (Sears) Gatling.
Mrs. Smith was a Welder in the manufacturing industry prior to her retirement. Virginia was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church and sang for many years in the church choir. She was loved by many, not only family but many friends, of every ethnicity, both young and old, all who will miss her style, laugh and kindness.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Katherine “Kit” Smith of Waterbury; her sister Aline Vann; grandchildren Christopher, Tracey, Kwame, and Sarita; four great grandchildren Katlyn, Richard, Jaylen, and Avery; and her daughter in law Ann Jenette.
A private graveside service will be held at New Pine Grove Cemetery. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with the arrangements. Donations in her name can be made to the Connecticut Food Bank, 2 Research Pkwy, Wallingford, CT 06492.
