OAKVILLE- Virginia G. Lawton, 78, passed away Sunday June 7, 2020, in the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Mrs. Lawton was born December 15, 1941, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Raymond and Edythe (Axelby) Grenier.

Virginia married her childhood friend and love of her life, Peter W. Lawton, on December 3, 1966, who predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by her six children - Eric and his wife Charmaine Lawton of Oakville, Stephen Lawton of Oakville, Warren and his wife Stephanie Lawton of Waterbury, Rebecca and her husband Donald Armington of Terryville, Kathryn and her husband Rickie Roy of Waterbury, and Shirley and her husband Christopher Baillargeon of Bristol; grandchildren Shelby, Kayley, Troy, Matthew, Jeremy, Lindsey, Bryan, Jacob, Christopher, Jessica, Anneliese, Breanna, Alexander and Ethan; and great grandchildren Benjamin, Ava, Melia, Elizabeth, and Kevin; along with many other loving relatives and close friends. Virginia was predeceased by her brother Leonard Grenier.

Virginia was an elementary school teacher in Southbury before starting her family. She had an unwavering devotion to her family and faith. A dedicated mother first and foremost, she treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She had a true heart of gold and a kind, generous spirit that touched so many lives throughout her years. She will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Our sincere and heartfelt thanks to Dr. John P. Moschello, as well as the wonderful staff at VITAS for the professional, loving care they showed to Virginia and our family.

Services will be private, and burial will take place in Bucks Hill Cemetery. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with the arrangements. There will be a Celebration of Life service at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory, to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St, Springfield, MA, 01104.
