It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Vincent “Vinny” Recchia, 84, on June 19, 2025. Vincent died at River Glen Health Center, Southbury, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Vincent is the son of the late Leonard and Antoinette “Anita” (Zingarelli) Recchia. A lifelong resident of Waterbury, he graduated from Kaynor Tech High School in 1958, where he played basketball and baseball for his school. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee in the Naval Construction Battalions (NCB). The Seabees were renowned for their “can do” motto. After serving in the military, he returned to Waterbury and was employed by Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) for many years until he transitioned to their division of Yankee Gas. He was employed as a Chief Service Technician for Yankee Gas until his retirement in 2003. He cherished the lifelong friendships that were created while he was employed in the company, (especially with Rod, Dave and his crew). As an adult, Vinny played baseball for many years; however, what was most important to him was coaching kids in baseball and pop-warner football. Of significant importance to Vinny was his longtime membership in the American Italian Civic Club, Waterbury, where he was also the Permittee for many years. Vinny was a committed and dedicated member of the club and all their causes, and the club truly meant so much to him.
He is survived by his daughter Deanna Recchia (Langenheim) and her husband Scott Langenheim; his grandson Nico Recchia, and Gina Zaiko “longtime family member” and Nico’s mom; his sister Phyllis Carusello; the mother of his children, Diane Recchia; his best friend from childhood, Joseph Musco; and his “GUY”, Steve Pesino, President of the American Italian Civic Club. He also leaves nieces, nephews and numerous family, and friends to mourn his loss. He is predeceased by his son Michael Recchia, his brother Salvatore Recchia, and his dear friends Tony Bruno, “Big John”, and numerous others.
