Thomas H. Denne III

CHESHIRE - Thomas H. Denne III, age 79, beloved husband of Cynthia Graves Denne, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2023. Thomas was born on March 24, 1944, in Denver, CO, to the late Thomas H. and Anne Denne Jr.

Thomas graduated Hopkins School, Class of 1962. While at Hopkins Thomas played Football, Hockey and Captained the Baseball team. He continued his schooling at the University of Vermont, then University of New Haven earning his bachelors, and then Quinnipiac University where he graduated with his MBA. He was raised in Cheshire and was an avid tennis player and loved playing golf. For over 25 years Thomas was employed as registrar for Naugatuck Valley Community College. For many years Thomas also served on the Town of Cheshire Retirement Committee.

Upon his retirement Thomas loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sports games and activities. In addition, Thomas and Cynthia would travel extensively with friends and family to Florida, various islands in the Caribbean, Alaska, UConn Women’s Basketball Final Fours, Cooperstown, along with many golf trips. However, his favorite place to escape was South Wellfleet, Cape Cod where he had vacationed since a child. The tradition continued with Cynthia spending a month at Cooks by the Sea for many years. Thomas’ favorite week was when the entire immediate family also including his siblings, nieces and nephews would vacation in nearby cottages. Thomas’ cottage was the first after ascending the sand dune from the beach and generally where happy hour started with the entire family each day.

In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children, Thomas “Tommy” Denne IV and his wife Jennifer and Jill Stanizzi and her husband Jonathan; his grandchildren, Brooke and Madison Denne and Elijah and Raelle Stanizzi; brother, Mark (Darlene) Denne; and sister, Elizabeth “Bee” (Bob) Worsham.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, August 19th from 12 pm to 1 pm at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street.
