Naugatuck, CT — Stephen J. Litke, 73, loving husband of Nancy (Edmondson) Litke, passed away on December 25, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.
Steve was born on September 12, 1952, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Harold A. and Margaret “Peggy” (DeVico) Litke. A lifelong Naugatuck resident, Steve graduated from Naugatuck High School, Class of 1970, and earned his bachelor's degree from Central Connecticut State University. He worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Labor for 35 years as an analyst, retiring in 2009.
Steve's impact on the Naugatuck community extended far beyond his career. He was a passionate advocate for youth sports, coaching and volunteering with Union City Little League and the Joan Joyce Softball League. His dedication also included volunteer work with the Naugatuck Hall of Fame, the Union City Little League Board of Directors, and the Naugatuck Youth Services Advisory Board. He was also a 50 year member of the Naugatuck B.P.O. Elks, #967 where he spent many Monday nights playing in the setback league. In recognition of his contributions to youth sports, Steve was honored by the Naugatuck High School Alumni Association.
A lifelong fan of the New York Jets and Boston Red Sox, Steve’s greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family. His love for girls’ softball was a defining part of his life. He coached for over 30 years with Union City Little League, where he made a lasting impact on countless young athletes, and also served as a coach for the Joan Joyce League. His time was enjoyed most when coaching both of his granddaughters. In his later years, Steve was a fixture at NHS and University of Saint Joseph softball games, always found cheering from the stands, engaging with fans, and sharing stories and laughter.
Summer vacations to Ocean City, NJ, were a cherished tradition for Steve and his family. He loved spending time on the beach, strolling the boardwalk, mini golfing, and simply enjoying life with those he loved.
In addition to his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy, Steve is survived by his children, Jeffrey Litke and his husband Drew Cosenza, and Tracy Litke and her fiancé, Pat Granahan; his cherished granddaughters, Alyssa Roberts and Christina Roberts; his brother, Robert “Bob” Litke; grandsons, Tyler Markey and PJ Granahan; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was predeceased by his siblings: William “Bill” Litke, Kathy Litke, and Penny Jean Litke.
