Stephen Charles Greenwood

Stephen Charles Greenwood, 56, of Cheshire, beloved husband of Jennifer Greenwood, passed away on June 19, 2023. Stephen was born on November 9, 1966 in Palo Alto, CA to Ann Marie Wozmak and the late George Greenwood.

Although born in California, Steve grew up in Cheshire, Connecticut. He attended all levels of school in Cheshire, and graduated from Cheshire High School.

Stephen began his career in wine working at Wine and Whiskey in Cheshire.  He moved to Hartley & Parker where his love of wine first developed and enduring friendships were born.  Once he joined San Francisco Wine Exchange, he was able to travel while enjoying good food, wine, and friends.  His most recent position with Vina Robles Winery is where he found a family beyond his own.

Stephen had a life-long love of baseball. When he was young, he enjoyed playing the sport and began his deep rooted love for the Red Sox. However, Steve found a new reason to enjoy the sport when he began coaching his son through years of little league baseball. He loved his connection with all the players and thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow in skills and life.  He loved to umpire all levels of baseball and enjoyed coordinating and fostering young umpires through the Cheshire Youth Baseball youth umpire program. He joined the Greater New Haven Baseball Umpires Association.  He umpired from the AA level to the Varsity High School level and served as a Member Representative to the organization.

He spent the colder months learning about and devising new ways to simplify and craft Maple Syrup. Steve enjoyed live music and proudly enjoyed performances by both his children, frequently attending events with the Cheshire High School Marching Ram Band, from halftime shows to Music in Motion, and Christmas Tree Pick-up. Steve was a member of the FreeMasons. He was an officer in his bowling league for over twenty years.  He loved gathering friends new and old for a spirited evening of bocce, or for a night of cards.

Stephen was a devoted Husband, Father and Friend to all.  He knew how to take charge and get things done, always willing to help those around him. His support and dedication touched countless community members.

In addition to his wife, Jennifer, he is survived by his children Charles and Caroline, mother Ann Marie Wozmak, brothers Michael Greenwood (Lorraine) and Robert Greenwood (Susan), and his nephews and niece Jake, Dustin, and Jadyn. He was predeceased by his father George and nephew Scott.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire, CT. A Masonic Service will conclude the evening at 7:45 p.m. To honor Stephen’s love for his family, and in lieu of flowers, monetary donations towards the children’s education and activities can be made out to Jennifer Greenwood. Mailed to: c/o Kiki Nugent, 95 Pound Ridge Rd., Cheshire, CT 06410.
