Laura Santos

Naugatuck, CT Laura M. Santos, widow of Joaquim Santos, her husband of 61 years, died peacefully on February 28, 2023 in the VITAS Hospice Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Laura was born on April 5, 1936 in Travanca, Oliveira de Azemeis, Portugal daughter of the late Alberto and Beatrice (Almeida) Martins and had lived in Naugatuck for over 50 years. Laura worked at the footwear division of Uniroyal Inc. and the Naugatuck Glass Company before retiring and she was a faithful parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.

Laura is survived by her sons, Manuel “Manny” Santos and his wife, Rejane Santos and Antonio “Tony” Santos; her grandchildren, Sarah, Amanda, Lexy and Ryon; her great grandchildren, Celina, Jazmine, Juliana and Jaxon; her sister, Otelinda Santiago and her husband, Manuel Santiago; her brother, Antonio Almeida and his wife; her sister in law, Adelaide DeJesus all of Portugal and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and her parents, Laura was predeceased by her sister, Celeste Almeida and her brother in law, Rojerio DeJesus.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
