Roy Stinson

Roy Stinson, 85, passed away January 18, 2024 at Chandler Medical Center, Chandler AZ. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Evie, Fitzgerald) Stinson.

Roy was born on June 21, 1938 in Waterbury, the son of the late Raymond and Mathilda (Erickson) Stinson. He was raised in Naugatuck and graduated from Naugatuck High School. At graduation, Roy was selected to receive “The Harvard Book” in recognition of his accomplishments at the high school level. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. While at Naugatuck High School, he became a three sport star in baseball, football and basketball. Roy was highly regarded as a team leader as the team’s captains. Roy went on to UCONN with full scholarship in baseball; and after his freshman year he transferred to Marietta College in Ohio. At Marietta, Roy became the leader of the baseball team.

Roy became an avid fly fisherman and he and his wife enjoyed camping in their 5th wheel trailer. They went every year camping for 3-4 months in the mountains of New Mexico to avoid the extreme heat of the summers in the Phoenix Valley.

Roy leaves behind his brother, Paul Stinson; 3 step daughters, Debra Ryder of San Clemente, CA; Linda Jeffreys of Perkasie, PA; Terri Skluzack of Chandler, AZ.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Grove Cemetery, 1 Cross St., Naugatuck, CT. Arrangements are in the care of Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, CT.
