It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Rose J. Ushchak, who left this world on October 14, 2025, at the age of 104. She was the wife of the late Alfred Perfetta and the late Theodore Ushchak. Born on February 2, 1921, in West Haven, she was a daughter of the late Celestino and Catherine (Filardi) LaTorre.
Rose lived a rich life filled with love, family, and countless memories. Rose grew up in New Haven, where she attended Woolsey Street School and Hillhouse High School. Over the years, she worked as a switchboard operator, customer service representative at Sears, and a sewing machine operator, all while showcasing her incredible talent for making clothes for her loved ones.
Beyond her work life, Rose was a vibrant member of the Cheshire Senior Center, where she shared her passion for fitness by teaching exercise classes. She was also an active Communicant of Saint Bridget Church in Cheshire, where her warm spirit and community involvement touched many lives.
Rose will be dearly missed by her beloved daughter, Elaine Trudel, her cherished siblings, Ann Carbone, Carmel Antonnuci, Josephine Phillips, and her brother Celestino “Bud” LaTorre, Jr. and Debi Lucibello. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Christine Trudel, Anthony Trudel, and Heather Baber, as well as her great-grandchildren Saryh Trudel, Rebecca Allen, Crete Dowling, Matthew Trudel, Madison Trudel, Skyler Baber, and Riley Baber, her Goddaughter Marie Fattore and her favorite pet Celeste. Rose was preceded in death by her grandson Richard Baber, her sisters Marie Fattore, Isabel “Betty” Mangino, her son-in-law Kevin Trudel and her brothers-in-law Alphonse Fattore, Salvatore Mangino, Joseph Carbone, John Antonnuci, Kenneth Phillips and Peter Mango. Rose’s family would like to thank her caregiver Maria Maldonado for her kindness and compassion.
Visitation will take place on Monday October 20, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street. Rose's funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Tuesday October 21, 2025 at 9:15 AM and proceed to St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church 175 Main Street in Cheshire for Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM. Following Mass Rose will be laid to rest at All Saint’s Cemetery 700 Middletown Avenue in North Haven. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Rose’s name may be made to Saint Bridget of Sweden Parish or to the Cheshire Senior Center 240 Maple Avenue Cheshire, CT 06410.
