Cheshire - Robert G. Walker, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife Susan (Odell) Walker with whom he celebrated 34 years of marriage, and his cherished daughters Elizabeth James of Orlando, Florida, and Robin Walker of Portland, Oregon.
Robert was born November 8, 1932, in Altrincham, Cheshire, United Kingdom. Following a cabinetmaking apprenticeship and service in the Royal Air Force No. 2 Squadron during the Cold War, he emigrated to America in 1961, although he maintained his British citizenship throughout his life. In Boston, he designed and built exhibits at the Children’s Museum, and then he served for many years as the chief Furniture Conservator at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. After his departure from the MFA in 1999, Robert devoted his life to his family, becoming ‘“Mr. Mom” to his two daughters and moving to Cheshire, Connecticut in 2002. Robert took great pride in supporting the girls’ activities, whether through riding lessons and horse shows for Liz or Irish step dancing, archery, and nature photography for Robin. He was an enthusiastic fan of Manchester United, the CHS Marching Ram Band, and the Quinnipiac’s Men’s Hockey Team. He and Sue loved nothing more than spending time in each other’s company: traveling to the North Shore of Massachusetts, watching old movies, doing jigsaw puzzles together, and so much more. He enjoyed working in his garden and on the house, and he will be remembered sitting outside on the patio as the unofficial captain of “Central Command” for the cul-de-sac.
Robert’s wonderful sense of humor and mischief, his countless fascinating and amusing stories, and his upbeat approach to life endeared him to everyone he met. He was kind, caring, generous, and selfless. He cherished his family and friends, and he viewed everyone new as friends he hadn’t met yet. He will be deeply missed.
