Rita Wooster, 92, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2025. She was the beloved wife of the late Kenyon H. Wooster and a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her. Born on September 1, 1933, in Waterbury, she was the daughter of the late Judson and Irene Lewis.
A proud graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1951, Rita went on to build a long and dedicated career as a bookkeeper with Chase Brass in Waterbury, later continuing her work with the Anchor Fastener Company. She approached every job—and every day—with care, pride, and a warm smile.
Rita loved life with an enthusiasm that was truly contagious. She had a bright, sunny disposition and a laugh that could lift anyone’s spirits. In her younger years, she found joy in ice skating and dancing—passions that reflected her graceful and joyful nature. In later years, her happiest moments were spent with her dear neighbor and friend Rosemarie, and her close friend Nina, enjoying lunches out and taking their favorite afternoon drives. Never one to pass up life’s simple pleasures or the adventures that came her way, Rita was always ready to go. She especially loved a good cup of coffee and delighted in a hot fudge sundae. She also had a deep love of nature and enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels every day. Her compassion extended to animals of all kinds, and she had a special passion for cats, proudly supporting her friend’s mission in rescuing them. She loved gardening and especially loved roses.
Rita leaves behind many who will forever carry her memory in their hearts: her nephews Earl Wooster, Charles Lewis, Steven Lewis, Michael Lewis, and Robert Lewis; her nieces Karen Mathews and Judy Murphy; as well as numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jud and Charles Lewis; her sisters-in-law, Margaret and Angie Lewis; and her nephew, Judson Lewis III.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rita’s life on Friday, December 5, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 496 Chase Ave, Waterbury, CT 06704. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home, with burial at Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.
