Richard "Greg" Romans

Bristol - Richard Gregory Romans, 80, of Bristol, beloved and dedicated husband of almost 56 years to Sandra (Violette) Romans, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2023, having been surrounded by the love of his family at Southington Care Center. The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Southington Care Center and the Franciscan Hospice Care for their compassionate support and assistance during this difficult time.

Greg, as he was known, was born November 2, 1942, in Bristol, CT. He was the son of the late Robert and Josephine (Sweeney) Romans. He graduated from Saint Joseph School in Bristol, and was a member of the first graduating class of Bristol Eastern High School. After high school he attended college and entered the Air Force Reserves serving our country with honor and pride. He ultimately began his 40 year career with Aetna in Hartford. It was there he met his loving wife Sandy with whom he raised their family of three sons in his own hometown of Bristol. He served on the Aetna Men’s Club Board and was part of the Aetna Men’s Bowling League that played at T-Bowl in Newington. He was a quiet man who strove each day to be an example for his sons of what it means to be a man focused on family and faith. His actions always epitomized these two focal points. Throughout the years, Greg and Sandy were active members of Saint Matthew Parish and he served for many years as a Parish Trustee. In 2010, he and Sandy received the Saint Joseph Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation. Greg was blessed to have been retired for 21 years and spend so much time with his loving wife enjoying their golden years together. It didn’t matter what they were doing as long as they were together. Many joyous nights were spent watching their favorite sports teams, UCONN Men’s and Women’s Basketball, as well as the Boston Red Sox.

In addition to his loving wife of almost 56 years, he leaves his three sons David (Kristyn) Romans of Brentwood, CA, Stephen Romans of Bristol, and the Reverend Jeffrey Romans of Cheshire, as well as his loving grandchildren Riley, Reid, and Piper. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, as well as many nieces and nephews. Greg was the last surviving sibling with Bob Romans, Betty Hintz, and Helen Romans predeceasing him. Hopefully, they are reunited enjoying some laughs and memories.
