Richard “Dick” Durand Dube, of Cheshire, beloved husband of 53 years to the late Joan Barrett Dube, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2024. He was born on November 25, 1933 in Waterbury, CT, son of the late Ralph and Mary (Shea) Dube.
Richard was a student at Sacred Heart and Cheshire Academy High Schools, playing football and competing in swimming. He graduated from Quinnipiac University where he played basketball. While at Quinnipiac, he was on the student council and was president of his fraternity. KDM. Richard was a long-time parishioner of St. Bridget Church, dedicating his time on the parish council for several years. He also belonged to the Cheshire YMCA and Meriden YMCA, serving on the Board of Managers. Richard was involved with the Cheshire Junior Football organization and was a leader in Boy Scouts. He was an avid golfer and was a member at the Watertown Country Club for many years. He and his brother co-owned Dube Electric Company in Waterbury CT. The commercial electrical business was founded in 1917 by his father. It saddened him to dissolve the business in 2014 but by the age of 80 he was finally ready to retire. He was a very hard working, dedicated, and generous man. He was the best at telling funny stories and jokes.
He leaves behind his children, Richard Dube, David Dube, Cindy Marinaro, Chris Dube, Alaine (Jay) Corbitt, Jeff (Kerri) Dube, Leanne (John) Shaughnessy and Janell (Ray) Powell; and fifteen grandchildren, Jason, Evan and Nicole Marinaro, Elisabeth Dube, Mackenzie and Lindsay Corbitt, Meghan, Kathryn, Richard II and Barrett Dube, Aiden and Ava Shaughnessy and Raymond, Riley and Brinley Powell. In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was predeceased by his brother, Brendan Dube.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, May 31, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish/St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, CT. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
