Raymond V. O'Connor

Raymond Vincent O’Connor, 92, beloved husband of the late Sally H. O’Connor, died peacefully on August 5, at The Benchmark Senior Living Center in Hamden, CT. Ray was born on April 5, 1931 in New Haven, CT. to the late Daniel and Marguerite (Padden) O’Connor.

In 1950, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany serving in the 1st Battalion 102 Infantry regiment as a Motor Sergeant until 1952. Upon his return Ray met the love of his life, Sally Ann Hynes, and in 1953 they married and moved across the country to Oconomowoc, Wisconsin where he was a linesman for Wisconsin Electric Power. They returned to CT in 1956 and resided in Cheshire for the next 50 years where they raised their children and Ray was active in Boy Scouts, Pony Club, Elks and the Rotary. Ray wore many hats over the years, he worked at Pratt & Whitney, served as the founder and General Manager of Kensington Brass and Plating Co., he was employed by McGuire Manufacturing and a manager for Blakeslee Construction.  He spent his last 10 years as the Assistant Director of Public Works for the Town of Cheshire prior to retiring to Vero Beach, Fl. for some well-deserved fun in the sun. Ray was a captivating story teller, his jokes and tales of racing stock cars at Savin Rock and other perilous feats kept everyone on their edge of their seats.  He enjoyed golf, tennis, setback and poker as well as traveling. After mom passed in 2004, our dad was blessed with a wonderful friend and travel partner in Joyce Trimper with whom he shared many years and created great memories. When he wasn’t on a cruise or in some far-off place, Ray otherwise known as Pop-Pop loved spending time with his family.

Ray was predeceased by his wife Sally and son David as well as his brothers Daniel, John, William and sister Margaret. Living relatives include his sons Tom O’Connor of Tolland, Stephen O’Connor of Thailand, Brian and his wife Jill O’Connor of So. Glastonbury and his daughter Janet Jacaruso of Cheshire. Ray’s grandchildren and their spouses including Brendan and his wife Lauren, Megan, Garrett, Kelly, J.D. and Justin will all miss Pop-Pop dearly.

A Graveside Service will be held at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of his family.  The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with his arrangements. To leave online condolences for his family, please visit www.fordfh.com
