Peter C. Cater

July 12, 1951 – September 10, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Peter C. Cater, age 74, of Naugatuck, CT on September 10, 2025.

Born on July 12, 1951 in Stamford, CT, Peter was the beloved son of Carman Cater and Christine Boland Cater. After the passing of his mother at a young age, Peter was lovingly raised by his stepmother, Elsa (Snyder) (Harper) Cater. He grew up in Southbury, CT, graduated from Southbury High School and attended Post University in Waterbury, CT.

Peter was the proud owner of Spectrum Video Communications, where he specialized in video and photography. He also dedicated 40 years of service to the State of Connecticut, retiring as Video Engineer for the Connecticut State Police.

On November 25, 1972, Peter married the love of his life, Andrea (Dlugokecki) Cater, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years. Together they raised two daughters, Tanya and Kiersten, and built a life filled with love, laughter and family.

Peter cherished his summers at the shore in Matunuck, RI, where he enjoyed swimming, clamming and fishing from his boat, “La Vie En Rose”. He and Andrea shared a passion for travel, with Ireland being their most treasured destination. Known for his generosity and loyalty, Peter was always there for family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Carman, Christine and Elsa Cater. Peter is survived by his devoted wife, Andrea; his daughters, Tanya (John) Aldi of Irmo, SC and Kiersten (Matthew) Wood of Naugatuck, CT; his cherished grandchildren, Jacob (fiancée Lyssa Malota) Aldi of Bristol, CT, Jared (Davianna) Aldi of Terryville, CT, Jonah Aldi of Irmo, SC, Raine Wood of Providence, RI and Kloe Wood of Naugatuck, CT. He also leaves his brother, Philip (LouAnn Baylock) Cater of Sarasota, FL; his nephews, Christopher Cater, Carman Cater and Jorgen Pedersen; his niece, Bridget Cook and his beloved dog, Toby.

Peter’s Memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT. Everyone attending Mass is kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck, CT. Calling hours will be Friday, September 12, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT. In lieu of flowers and to honor Peter’s memory, the family kindly asks that donations be made to VITAS Healthcare, whose compassion and care brought comfort in Peter’s final days, at VITAS Healthcare, 56 Franklin Street, 4th Floor, Waterbury, CT 06706.
