Naugatuck, CT Philip Winston Nichols, Jr., 77, husband of Cynthia Nichols, died unexpectedly on April 20, 2024 at Waterbury Hospital.

Phil was born July 2, 1946 in Presque Isle, Maine son of the late Philip and Vivian Nichols and was raised in Presque Isle, ME and Milford, CT. Before retiring in 2008, Phil worked as a butcher for 42 years at various supermarkets in Connecticut and was a member of Local 371, United Food & Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW).

Phil is a United States Navy Veteran, having served one tour of duty in Vietnam. He was interested in carpentry and did most of the work in his house. He enjoyed spending time in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and was a classic car enthusiast. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his family and was a great father to his sons and he had a very, very dry sense of humor.

Phil is survived by Cindy, his wife of 56 years; his sons, Jeffrey and David and his grandson, David.

A graveside service, with military honors, will be Friday, April 26, 2024 at 11:00am at Grove Cemetery, 62 Cross Street, Naugatuck. Those attending are kindly asked to please meet directly at the cemetery. There are no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
