Mary L. Malin

Mary Lucille “Marie” Malin (née Mangine), a resident of Cheshire, Connecticut, passed away on May 9 at age 85. Her life was a testament to her deep engagement with her family and community.

For 64 years, Mary was the beloved wife of Andrew John Malin, whom she married on September 10, 1960. Together, they built a loving family. She was the cherished mother of Maryelizabeth (Douglas) Stuart, Marlene (Jim) Ibsen and Andrea (Ryan) Cunha. Her joy was multiplied by her adoring grandchildren: Brayden, Lucia and Tyler Cunha; Megan Stuart; and Victoria (Colleen) O’Brien.

Mary is also survived by her devoted nieces and nephews: Veronica (Greg) Kastukevich, Frances (Scott) Lamson, Sarah (Lenny) Bochicchio, Frank (Cathy) Malin, Loretta Budd, Tom (Eileen) Zemke, and Scott (Tammy) Zemke. She leaves behind many beloved cousins, as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Her circle of love extended to dear friends and colleagues from her many years of professional and community service.

A dedicated member and former two-term president of the Rotary Club of Cheshire, Mary's commitment to service was widely recognized. In 2013, she was honored with the "Special Support of the Community" award from the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, reflecting her significant contributions to the local area. Beyond her involvement with the Rotary and Chamber, Mary served on the Board of Managers for the Cheshire YMCA, helped establish the first Cheshire Relay for Life, and held various other roles in church, school, and civic organizations.

Professionally, Mary achieved Realtor Emeritus status as a licensed broker for more than 50 years and was a valued agent with Calcagni & Associates since 1985. Her colleagues and clients will remember her dedication and warm presence. She received many accolades for her professionalism. A certified residential specialist and graduate of the Realtor Institute, Mary received the 2010 Cheshire Chamber of Commerce Woman in Business Award and was a recipient of the Connecticut Magazine Five Star Real Estate Agents Award for many years. Mary had a special passion for working with first-time homebuyers, helping them navigate their paths to homeownership.

Beyond her formal roles, Mary embraced the simple joys of life. She loved a good hot dog, was a champion Girl Scout Cookie Coordinator for her daughters' troop, savored picnics at the beach, and enjoyed a local concert or comedy show. She also appreciated the pleasures of travel and cherished visits with her many friends.

Mary possessed a remarkable ability to connect with people. She never forgot a birthday and was always at the ready to lend a helping hand to others. Her kindness and generosity left a lasting impact on countless individuals.

Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Anthony and Dominic Mangine, and her sister, Dolores Zemke. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, her extended family, her dear friends, and the numerous people whose lives she enriched through her selfless service and genuine care.

Mary’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the family, friends and colleagues who have been extraordinarily helpful and supportive throughout this difficult period and to the caring professionals at Masonicare.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rotary Club of Cheshire or the American Cancer Society will serve as a fitting tribute in Mary’s memory.
