Mary Joy DeVivo

Mary Joy DeVivo, 73, of Waterbury, beloved wife of Michael DeVivo, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2023 at The Village at East Farms at the Harbor Unit in Waterbury. Joy, as she was known to everyone, was born on October 1, 1949 in Waterbury, to the late James and Ann Cass.
Joy attended Notre Dame School in Waterbury. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton University in Morristown, NJ. She then received her Masters and 6th Year Certificate from Southern Connecticut State University. Joy devoted so much of her time, compassion and love into teaching. She began at Driggs Elementary School, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2008 and remained there for 41 years. She spent her last two years of teaching at Bucks Hill School. Joy was a former board member of Waterbury Catholic Charities and a former member of VFW Post 1946 Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, knitting and cross stitching.
In addition to her husband, Michael, Joy leaves behind her cousins, Nancy Taylor, Erin Taylor Mena, Mary Gerrity, Richard King, Judi Barrett and the Quane Sisters; and many loving friends. Joy’s family would like to thank the kind and caring staff of The Village at East Farms, especially Randi Bellemare and Leonilda Tavares. Also, they would like to thank the staff at Accent Care Hospice.
A Graveside Service will be privately held at the family’s convenience.
