Mark Joseph Smith

Mark Joseph Smith, of Liberty, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Friday morning, May 29, 2026. He was married to his loving wife, Janice Ploss Smith for 40 wonderful years.

Mark was born on August 26, 1960 in Naugatuck, CT a son of the late Clyde Lowe Smith and Hazel Duffy Smith. Mark graduated from Naugatuck High School, Class of 1978.

Mark grew up in Naugatuck, CT in a neighborhood filled with playmates that created a bond that has lasted through his lifetime. He loved his dogs, camping, traveling, and riding his Harley.

Besides his wife, Mark leaves behind his children, Margaret Milone (Stephan) and Joshua Smith of Liberty, SC, his grandchildren Caleb, Issac, and Haelynn Milone of New Port Richie, Florida, siblings Donna Smith of Pennsylvania, Richard Smith (Francine) of Naugatuck, Robert Smith of NC, Sandra Smith Cook of Pickens, SC, and Cynthia Smith Miller (Lynn) of Conway, SC, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Patrick and Kevin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck, CT. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT.
