Maria N. Gonzalez

Her love for music and dancing did not come to an end with her death. Maria Gonzalez passed from a sudden illness on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the age of 96. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her love for music and family.

 She was born on September 2, 1927 in Aguada, Puerto Rico to Juanita (Mejia) Rosa and Theodore Rosa. In her 20’s she chased her dreams and moved to the US settling in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she raised her family. Maria worked for a local tapestry company until her retirement. From then on, she spent her years with the love of her life and longtime companion, Rodolfo Gonzalez. After his passing, Maria moved in with her daughter in Naugatuck, CT. Maria enjoyed yearly trips to Florida to visit her family, and the many family gatherings celebrating birthdays and holidays. Every chance she had, you could find her laughing and dancing to music often being referred to as the “life of the party.”

Maria is the beloved mother of Jose Rosa and his wife, Sharone of Florida and Aida de los Santos of Naugatuck, CT.  She also leaves ten loving grandchildren; cherished great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her siblings, Panchita Quiles, Juanita Caro, Margarita Rivera and Estrella Matos.  

Maria is predeceased by her siblings, Luis Rosa and Engracia Matos; and her love Rodolfo Gonzalez.

A funeral service to honor her life will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 pm, with a Celebration of her Life at 5:30PM at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 201 Meadow Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770. A private burial will be held later. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org.
