Margaret L. "Peg" Irving

Margaret L. “Peg” Irving, age 92, of Cheshire entered into rest on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden.  She was the devoted wife of Robert C. “Bob” Irving for over 62 years until his passing in 2014.  Peg was born on December 27, 1931 in Amesbury, MA, daughter of the late John and Mary (Brennan) Greaney.

 Peg was raised in Massachusetts where she met her husband, Robert. Peg and Bob were married in 1952 and in 1957 they brought their family to Cheshire.  They were founding members and active parishioners of St. Thomas Becket Parish. She was the Director of Little Folks Nursery School in Cheshire before becoming the Director of Religious Education at St. Thomas Becket Parish. Her hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed, she was presented the Archdiocesan Medal of Appreciation by Archbishop Cronin. Peg was a member of the Early Bird Bowling League, a great card player, and an avid word game player on her iPad. After moving to Elim Park, she became involved in many activities including Bingo, calling many games. Peg also volunteered at Elim Park, where again her service to the community was acknowledged by her Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2017 she officially retired and spent time with her many friends and family, she was always surrounded by people she loved.

 Peg is the beloved mother of Deborah MacDonald and her husband, Michael of Guilford; Robert C. Irving Jr. and his wife, Margaret of Cheshire; and Richard C. Irving and his wife, Rhonda of Coventry, RI.  She also leaves her cherished grandchildren; Michael (Meg) MacDonald, Robert (Janice) Irving, Kristen Mielert, James (Leigh) MacDonald, Craig (Cassondra) Irving and Kyle Irving (Kayla - fiancé); her adored great-grandchildren; Natalie Mielert, Jane MacDonald, Tim MacDonald, Shelby MacDonald, Sloane MacDonald, Benjamin Irving, Anna Irving and Conrad Richards-Irving; and several nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by her siblings, Frank and Leo Greaney and Mary Shaw.

 Friends may greet Peg’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 from 4PM until 6PM.  On Wednesday, February 28, 2024 her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:15AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-ST. THOMAS BECKET CHURCH, 435 No. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire.  Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Higgins Rd., Cheshire.  At the request of her family, memorial contributions may be made to the CT Community Foundation, c/o Elim Park Resident Council Scholarship - 43 Field St. Waterbury, CT 06702.
