Louis Joseph Cardinale, aged 92, passed away peacefully June 7, 2025, at St. Francis Reflections Hospice. Born December 8, 1932, in Waterbury, Connecticut, to the late Antonio and Josephine (Gismondi) Cardinale. He leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, having been the devoted husband of Catherine K. Cardinale for over 65 years.
Graduated Leavenworth High School in Waterbury in 1950, then furthered his education at the State Technical Institute in Hartford, earning an Associate Degree in Industrial Technology in 1954. He then received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Management from Lawrence Technological University in Michigan in 1983. Lou enjoyed a fulfilling career as a hydraulic engineer, dedicating 38 years to Vickers, Inc., across three locations: Waterbury; Troy, MI; and Omaha, NE; ultimately retiring in 1993 as a Senior Project Engineer.
Beyond his professional achievements, Lou was an avid bowler, golfer, and card player. He found great joy in cruising with his wife and friends cataloging 30+ voyages. A life member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Knights of Columbus, he was also a founding member of two churches: St. Wenceslaus in Omaha, NE and St. John the Evangelist in Viera, Florida.
Lou will be deeply missed by his loving son, Matthew (Kay Cee Boros) Cardinale and his siblings Delores Cardinale, James (Marie) Cardinale, Thomas (Valarie) Cardinale, and Laura (James) Heintz.
The family will receive friends during a public viewing at Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, “The Alderson Building”, 201 Meadow St, Naugatuck, CT, on June 13, 2025, from 11AM until 12PM. At 12 PM his procession will leave for St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St, Naugatuck, for 12:30 PM Mass. Lou will be laid to rest in a burial service at St. James Cemetery, Cross St, Naugatuck, immediately following the Mass. A Memorial Mass at St. John the Evangelist in Viera, FL, will be July 2, 2025 at 8 AM. To leave online condolences for the family, please visit www.fordfh.com.
