Lois May (Schilling) Carey, 94, of Bristol, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 23, 1931 in Waterbury to the late Joseph and Stella (Sills) Schilling.
Lois was a proud graduate of the Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing and began her work as a registered nurse at Waterbury Hospital, later bringing her skill and compassion to the Southbury Training School Hospital. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Waterbury. Above all, Lois treasured time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She found joy in knitting, crafting, and traveling, and she was widely known for sharing her delicious homemade Italian cookies with those she loved.
Lois leaves behind her children, Joseph Carey and wife, Victoria of Plymouth, CT, Diane Sarnataro of San Tan Valley, AZ, and Janice Guerrera and husband, Robert of Wolcott, CT; grandchildren, Jennifer Carey, Joseph Carey Jr., Jeremy Sarnataro and wife, Yelena, Joshua Sarnataro and wife, Alyssa, and Brittany Mordarski and husband, Mark; great grandchildren, Zachary, Gregory, Justin, Trevor, Mia, Jace, Maverick, Myles, Sebastian, and Kiersten; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was predeceased by her siblings, Pearl (Warner), Joseph, Frederick, and Richard Schilling.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Bristol Hospital Hospice staff for their dedicated care, and offers a special note of gratitude to Gretchen Holloway for her exceptional compassion and support.
