Linda W. Stapleton

CHESHIRE - Linda Walter Stapleton passed peacefully in the presence of her children on September 7, 2020 at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden, CT at the age of 77 from complications of multiple sclerosis. Linda was born in Waterbury, CT on September 26, 1942 to Robert K. Walter, Sr., and Emily Kick Walter. She is predeceased by her father, Robert, her mother, Emily and her brother, Robert K. Walter, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Lance Walter of Plantsville, CT and by her children, Deborah Newlen of Bainbridge Island, WA, Dianna L. Stapleton of Cheshire, CT and Christopher R. Stapleton of Pinecrest, FL. and by her four grandsons, Caspar, William, Emmett and Adrian, to whom she was a loving grandmother.

Linda received her high school diploma from Crosby High School in Waterbury in 1960. Following that, she studied at Quinnipiac College prior to beginning work as a bank teller in Waterbury where she met her husband-to-be. Linda married Richard D. Stapleton in 1964 and gave birth to her daughters, Deborah and Dianna, in 1965 and 1966. Her third child, Christopher, was born in 1982.

In addition to being a loving, creative and fun mom, Linda dedicated her spare time to helping others. She was an active member of the Cheshire Garden Club and volunteered at the Cheshire Regional Center assisting the mentally disabled. She studied sign language when called to help the deaf. She was the type of person who would notice a stranger walking down Route 10 in Cheshire and stop to offer them a ride. The circle of her love extended to family, friends and strangers alike.

She was deeply spiritual and a devout Catholic. Linda served in numerous capacities at St. Bridget Church in Cheshire, including as a Sunday school teacher and Eucharistic minister. She loved attending daily mass at St. Bridget or St. Thomas Becket as her health permitted. Her daily prayer life was another way she sought to help people and embody the Christian faith in which she centered her life.

Linda will be remembered most for her devotion to God, the way she loved and helped others, for her warmth, playfulness and occasionally mischievous sense of humor. She was selflessly devoted to her family, her many friends and the community she called home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bridget of Sweden Parish-St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire, on Saturday September 12, 2020 at 10 am. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. There are no calling hours and The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410 is assisting with arrangements.
