Leo P. Lavallee III

Leo Pierre Lavallee III, 66, of Cheshire, CT, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Waterbury, Connecticut. Born on December 24, 1959, in Providence, Rhode Island, Leo lived a life filled with music, compassion, and deep devotion to his family and community.

Leo’s educational journey began at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Ithaca College in New York. His commitment to lifelong learning led him to pursue an Executive Master of Business Administration from the University of New Haven and a Sixth Year Degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

Music was not just Leo’s passion—it was the heartbeat of his life. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, he played trumpet, guitar, piano, and sang with joy and soul. He found profound purpose in writing and performing music and shared his talents generously with others. His dedication to sacred music was evident through his service as music director at both St. Bridget’s and St. Thomas Becket churches. Through these roles, he enriched countless worship services and touched many lives with his artistry and spirit.

Leo began his professional career teaching in upstate New York as well as working in sales with his father’s company, Nutmeg Utility Products, before following his calling in music education. He transitioned back into teaching as a music teacher at Nonnewaug High School and later served as Band Director at Terryville High School, where he inspired generations of students through his leadership and love of performance. His dedication to education eventually led him into administration, serving as Assistant Principal at Thomas Edison Middle School in Meriden, followed by his role as Principal of Lincoln Middle School in Meriden. He later became Principal of the Educational Center for the Arts in New Haven and concluded his distinguished career in educational leadership at Waterbury Arts Magnet School. In addition to his work in schools, Leo shared his love of music with the wider community as the Director of the Cheshire Community Band and Chorus, a role he held with pride and joy.

In the final chapter of his career, Leo followed his lifelong dream of pursuing his passion as a singer-songwriter in Nashville, Tennessee. What began as a personal journey quickly became another way for him to uplift others, as he brought the spirit of Nashville Open Mic to The Kitchen in Prospect, creating a space where local musicians could share their gifts. This inspired The Nashville Project, through which Leo helped connect local artists with opportunities in Nashville—arranging gigs, studio recording time, and invaluable networking experiences. True to who he was, Leo’s greatest joy was not only making music, but opening doors for others to shine.

Leo was known for his kindness and thoughtfulness—qualities that resonated deeply with those who knew him. He had a unique ability to uplift everyone around him, creating a sense of belonging wherever he went. His love extended beyond his immediate family to include a cherished chosen family of fellow musicians who shared in his creative journey.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Christel; son Michael; daughter Maria; step-son Cody; step-daughter Nicole; sister Jeannine; brothers-in-law Nelson Algarin and Mark Orsini; and many others whose lives were brightened by his presence. He was predeceased by his mother Theresa, father, Leo Sr., and sister Elizabeth.

Leo’s legacy lives on through the music he created and the love he gave so freely. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
