Obituary

Juliette (Lagasse) Dupont, known to family and friends as Julie, age 98, of Cheshire, entered into rest on Friday, October 9, 2026, at CT Baptist Home in Meriden. She was the devoted wife of the late Albert Dupont, with whom she shared more than 50 years of marriage until his passing in 2003.

Julie was born on April 2, 1928, in Waterbury, daughter of the late Thomas and Carmel (Bisson) Lagasse. Her family relocated to Canada when she was two years old, returning to Waterbury when she was eight. She attended St. Anne's School and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School with the Class of 1946. She went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Mary's Nursing School. Julie’s strong Catholic faith inspired her fierce strength and optimism in difficult times and the kindness and acceptance she showed others.

Julie spent nearly her entire life in the greater Waterbury and Cheshire area. A registered nurse, she devoted her professional life to caring for others, working at St. Mary's Hospital and with the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). Her natural compassion and desire to help others extended well beyond her nursing career and were evident in every aspect of her life.

Above all, Julie was devoted to her family. As the mother of eight children, she created a home filled with love, warmth, and encouragement. She possessed a rare gift for knowing when to listen and when to offer support. Never one to give unsolicited advice or impose her opinions, she somehow always recognized when someone needed her. And when they did, she was there with an abundance of love, reassurance, and quiet wisdom. Her gentle nature, cheerful disposition, quick wit, and unwavering belief in those she loved made her a constant source of strength to her family, always making those around her feel loved, understood, and capable.

With the arrival of her first grandchild, Julie became known to all as “Memere,” Following her retirement, she took great joy in helping care for her grandchildren. She was a familiar face in school and summer camp pickup lines and a devoted presence at their extracurricular activities. She delighted in being part of their everyday lives, and the memories of those years will always be treasured.

Julie had many talents and interests. A gifted seamstress, she made beautiful clothing and quilts and was frequently called upon to hem a pair of pants or replace a button. She was also a skilled knitter, making sure everyone had their favorite handmade mittens each winter. And she always loved a good game, especially when it involved family and friends. That tradition continued with Wednesday night Zoom Bingo, which began during the COVID pandemic and lasted five years. She never missed a game and rarely missed a number!

Julie's greatest legacy is the family she nurtured and the example she set. She taught those around her, not through lectures or advice, but through the way she lived—with kindness, patience, generosity, and an extraordinary capacity to love.

For the last 35 years, Julie shared a home with her daughter Jackie, son-in-law Dave, and their children, Peter and Paige. Their home was filled with warmth, laughter, and mutual affection, and Julie was especially fortunate to have Jackie’s devoted care throughout her later years

Julie is the beloved mother of Jacqueline Pikulski and her husband, Dave, of Cheshire; Thomas Dupont and his wife, Dyan, of Cheshire; Guy Dupont and his wife, MaryKay, of Wallingford; Peter Dupont of Meriden and Carole Dupont of Philadelphia; Jean Waye and her husband, Victor, of Cheshire; James Dupont and his wife, Denise, of Holliston, MA; Daniel Dupont and his wife, Beth, of Cheshire; and Ann Mallane and her husband, Roy, of Dennis, MA. She is also survived by her 15 cherished grandchildren and 10 adored great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Ray Lagasse of Poughkeepsie, NY, and Irene Melko of Watertown and Delray Beach, FL. She was predeceased by her sister, Laurette Knightly and her brother Albert Lagasse.
