Naugatuck, CT Judith C. McCowan, 81, died peacefully on October 20, 2025 at her home.
Judy was born on April 28, 1944 in Waterbury, CT daughter of the late Herculano Joseph and Lucille (Pichette) Cabeceiras, Jr. Judy lived most of her life in Naugatuck and she graduated from Naugatuck High School, Class of 1962. Judy enjoyed working at Mike’s Pizza Palace and then at Saturday’s Sundae’s, both restaurants in Naugatuck. Judy then opened her own business, Balloon Circus on Church Street in Naugatuck, which besides being a mother, was the job that she was most passionate about.
Judy’s favorite place on earth was Hammonasset Beach State Park, where she enjoyed seasonal camping and family outings throughout her life. Judy was so loved by everyone whom she came in contact with and she will always be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Judy is survived by her son and daughter in law, James and Anita McCowan; her daughter, Donna Greatorex; her granddaughters, Taylor and Carly Greatorex, Ashley and Alyssa McCowan; her great granddaughter, Grace Judith; several nieces, nephews and cousins and her adored cat, Peanut, who was her constant companion and always by her side. Judy was predeceased by her brother, Charles Bruce Cabeceiras.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Cross Street, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. Memorial donations are requested to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
