Judith May Modine
Judith May (Burke) Modine, 84, of Wallingford, formerly of Cheshire, passed away on Tuesday June 21, 2022 at Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden surrounded by her loving family. She was the longtime loving and devoted companion of Donald McPartland.
Judy was born September 5, 1937 in Lynn, MA, a daughter of the late Gordon Cleveland and Sophia (Chemelski) Burke and was a longtime Cheshire resident. She was a graduate of Salem High School and received her Bachelors of Education Degree from Salem State College and earned her Master's Degree in Education from Southern Connecticut State University. Judy was a first-grade teacher in the town of Cheshire at Chapman School and later Highland School, where she spent most of her career, retiring after many years of service.
Judy is survived by her daughter Heather Rodgers and her husband Timothy of Cheshire, her granddaughters who were her pride and joy, Kailyn and Bridget Rodgers both of Cheshire, her sisters Carol Sohn and her husband Frank of Lancaster, PA, Sandra Scagliotti and her husband Vincent and Lynda Burke all of Hampton Beach, NH, her niece Hilary Sohn of Exton, PA and her nephew Michael Sohn of Salt Lake City Utah. She also leaves her dear friends Shirley Albanese, Toni Moldenhauer and Karen Gallagher.
Judy loved the sunshine, being outdoors and especially loved the ocean. Summer was always her favorite season. We find it fitting that she would pass on the summer solstice and at the end of another school year. To honor Judy, we would ask that when you feel the sun on your face or smell the sea air this summer that you think of her.
A private graveside service in celebration of Judy's life will be held in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Cheshire Community Food Pantry 175 Sandbank Road Cheshire, CT 06410 or to the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter 200 Executive BLVD S #4B Southington, CT 06489. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street has care of arrangements.
