Judy grew up in Woodbridge and, in 1961, made Cheshire her home, where she lovingly raised her four children and was a dedicated member of the community for more than six decades. She earned her associate degree from Lasalle Junior College and went on to work for the New Haven Journal-Courier. She later served as the director of the Cheshire Housing Authority, where she worked to support local families and residents. A woman of deep faith, Judy loved the Lord and was a long-standing member of Christ Community Church and Christ Chapel at Elim Park, both in Cheshire.
She is deeply missed by her husband, Wayne Detzler; her sons, Robert (Stephanie) Grabar of Hamden, John Grabar of Cheshire, and Kenneth (Julie) Grabar of Cheshire; her daughter, Wendy (John) Fusari of Southington; her step-granddaughter, Alejo Garcia of Cheshire; her stepson, Mark (Cathy) Detzler of England; and her step son-in-law, Scott Samuelson of Trumbull. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, and dear friends who were like family. She was predeceased by her first husband, Leon Grabar; her siblings, Mary Victoria “Vicky” Leary and Reverend Ernest L. Stone, Jr.; and her stepdaughter, Carol Samuelson.
