Joseph L. DellaValle, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026, at the age of 92, at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the loving husband of the late Roberta Mae (Garafolo) DellaValle. Born on January 29, 1934, in New Haven, Connecticut, to the late Louis T. and Mary (Lane) DellaValle, Joseph lived a life filled with purpose, devotion, and a strong sense of community.
Joseph dedicated the majority of his career to serving as a diesel mechanic in the heavy truck and automotive industry, a profession that filled him with pride and which he approached with unwavering work ethic. Those who were fortunate enough to know him saw not only a skilled mechanic but a mentor who shared his knowledge and passion for the trade with others.
Joseph was committed to his faith and community. He was a co-founder and active member of the former St. Thomas Becket Church in Cheshire and was currently a Communicant of St. Bridget of Sweden Parish. His dedication to the church was evident through his many contributions, always striving to uplift those around him. In addition to his church involvement, Joseph’s heart was deeply rooted in youth development. He volunteered extensively with the Boy Scouts in Cheshire, where his influence extended far beyond the organization. Countless young lives were touched by his guidance and support, and he instilled in them the values of integrity, respect, and perseverance.
Mr. DellaValle is survived by his sons, Joseph DellaValle, and Thomas DellaValle, and his wife Irva, and his daughters, Catherine Jenks and her wife Valerie and Carolyn Carpenter. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Jason DellaValle, Ryan Jenks and his wife, Jaimie, Caitlin Jenks, Andrew Jenks and his wife Katerina, Tyler DellaValle and his fiancé Victoria, Carly DellaValle. In addition to his wife and parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Robert “Bobby” DellaValle and his sister Martha Colello.
