Jonathan Nyce

Jonathan James Nyce, a beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, and teacher, died unexpectedly on June 11, 2021, at the age of 37.

Jonathan was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended Renbrook School and Suffield Academy before moving to Minnesota where he graduated from Orono High School. He returned to Connecticut to attend Quinnipiac University where he obtained his undergraduate and masters degrees, which prepared him for his career in education. Jonathan was devoted to teaching young children, and he spent his career teaching for Hamden Public Schools. He was passionate about the importance of building a personal relationship with each student, and he did so with unending compassion and enthusiasm. He could motivate and inspire children like no other. He truly loved all of his students, would talk about them all the time, and missed them when they moved on.

Above all else, Jonathan was a family man. Jonathan is survived by his wife, Tamara, with whom he shared the most beautiful love story beginning when they were very young. He is also survived by his incredible daughters, Blakely Ann and Avery Brooke, who were truly his pride and joy. He loved being their father more than anything, and he was a wonderful daddy. Jonathan is also survived by his parents, James and Beverly Nyce, his sister Becky Silva, and many other family, friends, colleagues, and students, all of whom he loved with his whole heart.

Without question, Jonathan was a good man, with a kind and compassionate spirit. His charm and humor would light up the room. He is irreplaceable and will be incredibly missed.

A service to honor Jonathan’s life will be held Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street. A period of visitation will follow the service.
