Jon Smardin

Jon Smardin, 78, of Cheshire, beloved husband of Joanne Smardin, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on July 14, 2023. Prior to their move to Connecticut in 2020, they spent many happy retirement years living in Rhode Island. Jon was born on July 21, 1944, in New York to the late Sidney and Molly Smardin. When he was five years old, the family moved to Norwalk, where he grew up and attended local schools.

A dedicated family man, he spent countless hours volunteering on the board of the local Red Cross chapter, as Past President of the Silvermine Association and coaching his children's sports and activities. He was ever-present with his camera to capture all of the family's good times.

Jon was personable, friendly, caring and had a wonderful sense of humor. After a successful career in corporate finance, he found time for his favorite pastimes. He was a diehard golfer, a baseball coach and umpire. Jon was a skilled woodworker and craftsman who could build just about anything. Jon and Joanne greatly enjoyed traveling and some of their adventures took them to Europe, Mexico and around the United States. The beautiful coastal waters of Rhode Island often found them entertaining friends and family on his pontoon boat.

In addition to his wife, Joanne, Jon leaves behind his children, Adam (Kim) Smardin and Jill (Brendan) Mahan; grandchildren, Abigail, Connor and Charlie Smardin; and his brother, Allan (Linda) Smardin. He was predeceased by his sister, Toby Smardin.
