John R. Sousa, Jr.

Naugatuck, CT     John R. Sousa, Jr., 66, died peacefully on December 3, 2025 at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born May 21, 1959 in Waterbury, CT son of the late John R. Sousa, Sr. and Elizabeth (Manthey) Sousa. John lived in Naugatuck all of his life, he attended Naugatuck High School for three years and graduated from St. Thomas Moore School in Oakdale, CT in 1977. John then went on to attend the Connecticut School of Electronics. Before retiring in 2024, he was an owner of J and A Waterville Oil Service, where he worked with his family for 40 years.

John loved the outdoors and nature. He had a deep love for animals and could usually be found wearing an animal shirt. Overall, he loved helping people through his work and spending time with his family.

John is survived by his daughter, Brianne Sousa; his son, Goose Sousa; his brother and sister in law, Mark and Joyce Sousa; his nephew, Brian Sousa and his step-daughter, Hayley Lindsey. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Diane Hurst and his nephew, Justin Damiano.

Per John’s wishes, there will be no services or calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor John’s memory, donations are requested to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) at www.pancan.org or to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org.
