John Francis Pastor

John Francis Pastor, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Cheshire, Connecticut, on June 28, surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of music, family, friendship, and professional accomplishment.

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, John was the son of Dorothy Pastor and the late Tony Pastor, the celebrated big band leader whose orchestra entertained audiences throughout the 1940s and 1950s. Music was woven into John's life from an early age, a gift that he would cultivate throughout his lifetime. He was predeceased by his brothers, Tony Pastor Jr. and Guy Pastor.

John is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sheila Walsh Pastor, whose partnership and devotion were the foundation of their family. He also leaves his two sons, Nathaniel Pastor of Los Angeles, California, and Benjamin Pastor of Washington Depot, Connecticut, and his wife, Ledlie. Nothing brought John greater joy than being "Grandpa" to his four cherished grandchildren, Violet, Lillian, Marlowe, and Adeline, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

John graduated from St. Francis College in Maine, where he formed lifelong friendships and developed a love of learning that stayed with him throughout his life.

Following in his family's musical tradition, John and his brothers performed professionally as The Pastor Brothers, entertaining audiences around the world. One of the great highlights of his musical career was touring internationally with the legendary Pearl Bailey. Although his professional career ultimately took him in another direction, music never left him. An accomplished jazz guitarist, John continued to play throughout his life, bringing joy to family, friends, and anyone fortunate enough to hear him.

John also enjoyed a distinguished career in advertising. He was a partner in the successful agency Margeson, Maher & Pastor before later serving as Media Director at Cronin & Company, where he earned the admiration of colleagues and clients alike for his creativity, professionalism, and integrity.

Beyond his work and music, John embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He was a licensed private pilot, an avid golfer, and a lifelong lover of jazz. Whether flying an airplane, playing his guitar, enjoying a round of golf, or sharing stories over dinner with friends and family, John approached life with warmth, wit, humility, and quiet generosity.

Above all, John will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His gentle spirit, easy smile, quick sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will remain with those who knew and loved him.

A private Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome this November. A Celebration of Life will be held in Washington Depot, Connecticut, this fall. The family is deeply grateful for the many expressions of love, friendship, and support they have received.
