Obituary

John (Jack) Cotter Dolan, 88 of Wallingford died on June 23, 2026. He is survived by his loving wife, Maryann (Thompson) Dolan, and son Kevin as well as cherished grandchildren, Megan and Cullen and daughter-in-law Julienne of Avon. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mabelle (Cotter) Dolan.

Born in New Haven on January 16, 1938 Jack was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in West Haven and received a B.A degree in Economics from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN, and an M.A. degree in Communications from Fairfield University. Jack also taught at Quinnipiac University.

Following an early career in sports as Associate Director of Sports Information at Yale University and as an associate producer at the ABC TV network, Jack served as Public Information Manager for the New Haven and North Haven public schools and then joined the United Illuminating Company as Public Information Manager until he retired in 1994.

An avid Dodger baseball fan and Notre Dame football fan, Jack was president of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of New Haven. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves 729th Railway Transportation Company.

Jack and his wife were communicants of St Bridget of Sweden Church for well over 50 years, where he was a member of the Parish Council. In the Cheshire community Jack was on the CATV and Energy Commissions.

In retirement Jack and Maryann enjoyed wintering in Naples, FL and dining out with family and friends. Jack enjoyed attending most sporting events, especially Notre Dame High School and Notre Dame University ones. Most of all, he was thrilled to watch his grandchildren’s involvement in ice hockey and lacrosse.
