John Gillette, age 71 of Cheshire and Port St. Lucie, FL passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 at VITAS at St. Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Joanne “Jojo” (Guerrera) Gillette for over 29 years until her passing in 2023. John was born on August 28, 1954 in Waterbury, son of the late John and Edna (Hughes) Gillette.

John was raised alongside his sisters in Cheshire and attended local schools, graduating from Cheshire High School. He worked for many years in the trucking industry, eventually owning and operating his own company. Both he and Joanne enjoyed the companionship of many animal friends throughout the years and snowbirding at their home in port St. Lucie, Florida. John was a known handy and dependable neighbor and will be remembered for his selfless character and willingness to help those in need.

John is the beloved brother of Katie Underwood and her husband, Jeff “Toad” of Prospect and Margaret Chadwick of Carolina, Puerto Rico. He is also survived by his in-laws, Johnny and Laurene Guerrera of Bolivia, NC and Bobby and Janice Guerrera of Wolcott; his cherished rescue pup, Luna; and his many loving lifelong friends in the trucking industry.

John’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers that treated him with dignity and compassion during his treatment.
