Joaquim T. Ministro

Joaquim T. Ministro, age 80 of Waterbury and formerly of Naugatuck, entered into rest on August 1, 2026 at Glendale Center in Naugatuck after a brief illness. He was born on August 26, 1945 in Pardilhó, Portugal, son of the late Diamantino and Gloria (Tavares) Ministro. In pursuit of better opportunities, he moved to France before finally settling in the United States in 1966.

In 1974, Joaquim and his former spouse, Lise, started a loving family in Naugatuck. Joaquim worked diligently in the construction industry for Carabetta Construction of Meriden before realizing his dream of entrepreneurship by opening Ministro's Package Store, where patrons were often greeted by a friendly card game. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his family and patrons. He was a proud supporter of Sporting soccer, often found listening to games on the radio—a passion that brought him immense joy. Joaquim found true happiness spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored dearly.

 He is the beloved father of Richard Ministro and his wife, Sandy of Bristol; Gabrielle Theriault and her husband, Mike of Waterbury; and Michelle Dalvano and her husband, Matthew of Meriden. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Richard Ministro (Taylar), William Ministro (Kaylee), Lucas Theriault, Maxwell Dalvano; his great-granddaughter, Liliana Ministro; his siblings, Antonio Ministro and his wife, Armenia; Franclina Costa and her husband, Manuel; and Arminda Pereira and her husband, Miguel; and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, João Ministro.

Joaquim’s family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude for the compassionate care and kindness shown to him by the staff of Glendale Center, and they are especially grateful to Doreen, Lisette, Christina, Stella, and Ginger for their exceptional dedication, warmth, and support.

A Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 7, 2026 at 11AM at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706. Friends and family are invited to meet directly at church.
