Joan Dupleix Lagervall, age 94 of Cheshire, passed away on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill in Norwalk. She was the devoted wife of the late Lewis Martin Lagervall for over 61 years until his passing in 2022. Joan was born on May 5, 1932, in New York, NY, daughter of the late Henri and Dorothy (Byrne) DeRomoet.

Joan grew up in New York and developed a lifelong love of learning, adventure, and travel. She met her husband, Lewis, at Timberline Ski Area on Mt. Hood in Oregon, where she was a ski instructor and Lewis was a lift operator.

Joan and Lewis later moved to San Francisco, where they started their family. In 1968, Joan and Lewis moved to Cheshire where they resided for over 50 years. Joan devoted herself to her family and especially enjoyed skating, skiing and playing with her family and friends. She took great pleasure in cooking and baking for her family, creating the warmth and traditions that brought everyone together. Joan was also a devoted educator, spending many years as an English teacher at Cheshire High School as well as teaching English as a second language in the evening.

Joan and Lewis shared a lifelong passion for tennis, both as players and devoted fans of the sport. Their love of tennis brought them around the world, including annual trips to Paris every June to attend the French Open. They also made annual trips to Hong Kong and loved traveling together, embracing different places, cultures, and experiences.

Joan is the beloved mother of Gabrielle Evans and her husband, Peter of Madison; Andrew Lagervall and his wife, Nina of Catonsville, MD; and Matthew Lagervall and his wife, Tracy of Norwalk. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Charles Evans; James and Erin Lagervall; and John, Daniel and Lewis H. Lagervall. She was predeceased by her husband, Lewis M. Lagervall.
