Woodbury — Jean McDermott, 96, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at the home of her son in Florida. She was the wife of the late John P. McDermott.

Mrs. McDermott was born on March 19, 1930, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late William and Eva (Matusavage) Shopis. She worked as a medical secretary.

She is survived by her three sons, Paul McDermott (Sina) of Naugatuck, Kevin McDermott of Waterbury, and Christopher McDermott (Carlos) of Orlando, Florida; as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Jacobs, and her son, Mark McDermott.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Buckmiller-Flower-Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck. On Wednesday, September 2, her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck.
