Irene Abrantes

Naugatuck - Mrs. Irene de Jesus Abrantes, 95, of Naugatuck and Lisbon, Portugal, passed away on Thursday May 21 at the Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck. She was married to the late Ivo da Conceicao Abrantes and they resided in Lisbon for the most part of their lives. They were married for 62 years.

She was born to the late Antonio and Aurea Albino, April 28, 1914, in Lisbon. Irene was home schooled and later attended a local trade school where she became a professional Seamstress.

Irene was a caring and kind soul who made a difference on every life she touched. She was also a great source of inspiration who loved the musical arts, crafts, cooking, gardening and travelling.

Irene is survived by her son Antonio and her daughter in law, America, of Naugatuck. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Ivo, Cristina, Benton, Sandra; and four great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Matthew, Theodore and Samantha.

Arrangements - A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 30th, 2009 at11 a.m. at the Church of Eternal Light, 1199 Hill Street, Bristol CT, 06710. Please come and share your memories of Irene. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements.
