Helen Althea Faber, 98, has passed peacefully on June 5, 2026, to once again be with her loving husband Donald in the heavens above.
Helen was born in Sangerville, Maine, lived in Dexter, Maine and was educated in Newport, Rhode Island, as her parents, Donald and Elizabeth "Betty" Mower followed the war industries. Helen’s father eventually ended up working at the Brass Mills of Waterbury where she met and married Donald and adopted their sons, William and David.
In the 1970's, Helen was involved in many organizations in town from volunteering her time to teach young women how to sew at the Salvation Army to Scouting as a Den mother. Helen enjoyed square dancing, camping, traveling and cherished the friendships and fun at the Wolcott and Prospect senior centers. Her love of community and her home in Buck's Hill was apparent by her giving back spirit and participating in the Waterbury's Earth day clean-ups yearly which she was performing well into her late 80's. She had served as board member of the Buck's Hill Community Club and on the Buck's Hill Cemetery committee. She spent some of her retirement time helping out at Connecticut Outdoors the Kayak and Canoe shop in the Old Pin Shop in Oakville with her son David, the owner. She would often be seen working at the outdoor community events like The White Memorial Foundation's Family Nature Day and at the Naugatuck river outings including the Naugatuck Valley River and the Beacon Falls Duck Race Celebration. For 6 years, that event brought kayak and canoe racers from the area and New England states to the Naugatuck Valley to benefit the ecology of the river. Additionally, Helen was very excited about the addition of a viable Greenway in Waterbury to highlight the riverfront. Helen believed in leaving things better than the way you found them. Helen worked as a telephone operator at SNET for many years. She also was a very talented seamstress, even making wedding dresses. She continued that passion by working at JoAnn Fabrics in Waterbury.
Helen leaves behind her son, William and his wife, Mary and their daughter Breely; and also her son, David and his partner Madelene.
