Heather “Patch” Keidel Hayes, 50, of Watertown, beloved wife of 12 years to Daniel D. Hayes, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026. Born on December 22, 1975, in Salt Lake City, Utah, she was the cherished daughter of Cathy Davis and the late William A. Keidel.
Heather was a woman whose warmth, strength, humor, and unwavering love touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Known affectionately as “Patch,” she brought light and laughter wherever she went and was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, stepmother, and friend. Her generous heart, compassionate spirit, and fierce loyalty made her not only beloved family, but also a best friend to many.
Heather graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s degree in Business and later earned her Master of Business Administration from Quinnipiac University. Dedicated to excellence throughout her professional career, she maintained her certification as a Certified Administrator for Surgery Centers (CASC). Heather proudly served as Vice President of Cloud Services for Surgical Information Systems (SIS), where she was respected for her leadership, intelligence, professionalism, and commitment to those she worked alongside.
While Heather’s professional accomplishments were many, her greatest achievement was the love she gave so freely to the children in her life. She was affectionately known as “Mom 2.0” — the kind of stepmom every child dreams of having. Heather loved her stepdaughters, Grace and Ava, wholeheartedly and made every child she encountered feel important, included, and deeply cared for. Whether they were friends of her stepchildren, her beloved niece and nephew, or even children she had just met, Heather had a remarkable gift for making others feel special.
Her kindness was never small or unnoticed. Heather was known for cheering loudly from the sidelines and turning ordinary moments into treasured memories. After her nephew’s Pop Warner football games, she would often bring the entire team to the concession stand, happily buying snacks for everyone simply because she wanted every child to feel celebrated and cared for. That was Heather — endlessly generous, joyful, and always thinking of others before herself.
She especially treasured the bond she shared with her beloved niece, Meah, and nephew, John “LJ” (“PBB”), whose lives were forever brightened by her love, encouragement, laughter, and unforgettable spirit. Whether through shared adventures, heartfelt conversations, or simply being present, Heather created memories with them that will be cherished forever.
In addition to her loving husband Daniel, Heather leaves behind her mother, Cathy Davis; her stepdaughters, Grace Hayes and Ava Hayes of Oakville; her sisters, Amy LK Borenski and Martha Keidel, both of Naugatuck; her brother-in-law, John Borenski of Naugatuck; her beloved niece, Meah; her beloved nephew, John “LJ” (“PBB”); as well as extended family members and countless dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her kindness, loyalty, and friendship.
Heather was predeceased by her father, William A. Keidel, and her beloved mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gwendolyn and Dennis Hayes.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT. Please meet at the funeral home on Friday, June 5, 2026 at 9 a.m. to participate in a procession for the ages to send our dear Heather home. The procession will lead to a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 210 Church Street, Naugatuck, CT.
Though her time here was far too short, Heather’s love, laughter, and beautiful spirit will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
