Harold Robert Kramer, 78, of Cheshire, CT, beloved husband of Karen Miller Kramer for 53 years, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2026. Harold was born on August 3, 1948 in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Pearl Kramer.

Harold received an AAS degree in electronics engineering from the University of Hartford in 1968, a BA from the University of Connecticut in English in 1972, and an MA in Education also from the University of Connecticut in 1983.

He worked in the Connecticut cable television industry from its beginnings in the 1970’s and helped launch a new cable TV business for SNET in the 1990’s. He established and taught in a training program for cable television workers at Middlesex Community College. He also worked as an executive at Connecticut Public Broadcasting, regularly appearing in on-air fundraising.

Harold was a lifelong amateur radio operator whose call sign was WJ1B (SK). He served as the chief operating officer of the American Radio Relay League until his retirement in 2016 and was a longtime contributor to their magazine, QST. He was also active in the Meriden Amateur Radio Club - Wallingford Amateur Radio Group and with Parks on the Air in recent years.

Harold was deeply engaged in his community, serving as a member of the Cheshire Democratic Town Committee, an elected member of the Planning and Zoning Committee, and the chair of the public library board. He served for decades at Temple Beth David in a variety of leadership roles, including president from 2021-2022.

An avid researcher of family history and genealogy, Harold loved reading, music, and walking around Cheshire, often stopping to greet friends and get coffee at Main Street Caffe.

Harold leaves behind his daughter Anna, his daughter Ruth (Bryce Huebner), his brothers Jeffrey (Rita Kramer) and Barry (John Crittenden), his sister Ellen, his nephew Matthew and his family, his niece Rebecca and her family, and many beloved cousins, friends, and neighbors.

The family would like to express their thanks to Hartford Healthcare Hospice at Home, especially nurse Liz and aide Dana; HHC Cancer Center at MidState Medical, especially Dr. Gerard Fumo, Dr. Adam Johnson, and their staff; and the team at 4th floor Pavilion E MidState Medical Center for their compassionate care.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at Temple Beth David, 3 Main St., Cheshire, CT. Burial will follow at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, 166 Wallingford Rd., Cheshire, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth David (the Richard Fiske Capital Fund), Ball and Socket Arts, Friends of the Cheshire Public Library, or MidState Medical Center.
