Naugatuck, CT Gregory Joseph Fortin, 63, husband of Jean (Fitzgerald) Fortin, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 21, 2025 at St Mary’s Hospital. Gregg was a cancer survivor and succumbed to a brief illness.
Gregg was born July 16, 1962 in Waterbury, CT. Gregg was the son of Beverly (Santoro) Fortin and the late Roger J. Fortin. Gregg was a lifelong Naugatuck resident, having graduated from Naugatuck High School and County Truck Driving School, where he was also an instructor. Gregg was a lifelong truck driver and was most recently employed by Sikorsky Aircraft.
Gregg’s favorite past times included spending summer days at the beach, watching his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, building model trucks, and spending time with his family and friends. Gregg was a member of the B.P.O. Elks, Lodge 967 for the past 43 years.
In addition to Jean, his loving wife of 40 years, and his mother Beverly, Gregg is survived by his son and daughter in law, Stephen and Sarah Fortin; his daughter, Carissa Fortin; his sister, Jacquelyn (Fortin) Stuart; his brother and sister in law, Michael and Denise Fortin; his granddaughters Emily and Olivia Fortin; his nephew Jack Fortin; his sisters and brothers in law David and Mary Ellen Osiecki; Ed and Cindy Sodlosky; Lori Fitzgerald and Tom Barton; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday October 27, 2025 at 10:00 am at St Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck. Everyone attending Mass is kindly asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Buckmiller Ford Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Gregg’s memory, donations may be made to Smilow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital at www.ynhh.org/smilow or to St Mary’s Hospital, ICU, 56 Franklin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
