Garry G. Germano, 68, of Cheshire, passed away Sunday May 7, 2023 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.
Garry was born April 10, 1955 in Bridgeport, a son of the late George and Loretta (Pivarnik) and was a longtime Cheshire resident. He was a graduate of Bunnell High School in Stratford as well as Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island. Garry was a talented chef and worked in many fine establishments over the years including Belle Haven in Greenwich CT and Cliff Walk Manor in Newport Rhode Island. He was the executive chef of Café Med which he owned and operated along with his partner, Cheryl, for 29 years. In recent years he was partly retired working seasonally at the Madison Beach Club. Known for his meatballs, Garry was the go-to chef for holidays and family gatherings and his cuisine as well as his company will certainly be missed. Garry was humble and kind. He accepted others for who they were without judgement. He loved spending time with good friends and especially enjoyed time in Newport and upstate New York with his dear friend Marie. He was a very spiritual person, always reading and listening to authors and speakers who provided inspiration and guidance. He complimented this mindfulness with workouts at the Y.M.C.A.
Garry leaves his “person,” Cheryl Horning of Cheshire and her children, Christon Smith of Waterbury, Chad Horning and his wife Erica of Cheshire and Chauna Wilson and her husband Eric of Wolcott, his brother George Germano and his wife Barbara of Milford, his sister Corrine Clark of Bristol, five grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Charlene Shortell.
Family and friends may gather at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire 615 South Main Street on Thursday May 18, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. followed by a service in celebration of Garry’s life at 6:00 p.m. Burial will be held privately.
