Cheshire - Frances Liedke, 78, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Mid-State Medical Center after a brief illness, with her family by her side. She was the devoted wife of Charles W. Liedke.
Frances was born June 16, 1947, in Waterbury, the daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Shemeth) Bernik. A few years later, they moved to Cheshire. She graduated from Southern CT State University and was an educator in Cheshire for many years. She more recently worked as Corporate Secretary for The LR Brown Company.
Besides her husband of 56 years, she is survived by her sons Charles Liedke, Jr., his wife Amy, and their two children Ethan and Ashlyn; Robert Liedke, his fiancé Rebecca Piwnica, and her son Matthew Pronti.
Frances was very musical her whole life. When she was young, she and her family belonged to the Cheshire Grange, where she frequently performed in shows and concerts, singing and playing guitar. She was involved with the Cheshire Jaycees and Junior Women. In later years, she was active in the Cheshire Community Chorus, including serving a term as its president.
Frances, like her father, was a lover of all animals but mostly dogs. There was a dog by her side most of her life.
Frances devoted her life to her family, raising her sons and working for the family business. She adored being a grandmother and could often be found cheering at games, watching school plays, or spending a quiet day with her grandchildren. Fran was a steady and loving presence and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
