Fortunato "Fred" Anthony Schiavo

Fortunato “Fred” Anthony Schiavo, age 86, of Cheshire joined his heavenly savior on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at his home. He was the devoted husband of Doreen (Ensor) Schiavo, with whom he just celebrated 58 years of marriage on June 3rd. Fortunato was born on December 6, 1932 in Avis, PA, son of the late Luigi and Harriet (Benedict) Schiavo.

Fred served his Country with honor and pride with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. Fred carried that service into his role as provider and protector to his family. Ensuring the wellbeing of his family was the goal that drove him daily. He took great pride in his career which ultimately was crowned with 30+ years at the Norwalk Hospital. Fred touched many people always trying to help, encourage and sometimes even push them towards greater goals.

Fred’s love and appreciation for food was rarely matched. Not shy to critique and constantly seek perfection on a dinner plate, Fred most certainly enjoyed the purity of Italian food… even in his final days he dreamed of pasta. In addition to his wife, Doreen, Fred is survived by his loving children; Nadine Brennan and her husband, Terrence of Rocky Hill and Kristy Breden and her husband, Timothy of Danbury; and his cherished grandson, Luke Brennan.

Friends may greet Fred’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Monday, August 5, 2019 at from 4 PM until 7 PM. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home, friends may greet the family from 10 AM until the time the service begins. A private burial with Full Military Honors will be held in CT State Veterans Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
